“The capitulation of Yale University Press to threats that hadn’t even been made yet is the latest and perhaps the worst episode in the steady surrender to religious extremism—particularly Muslim religious extremism—that is spreading across our culture. A book called The Cartoons That Shook the World, by Danish-born Jytte Klausen, who is a professor of politics at Brandeis University,...

Facebook | Caffe L'affare for Maranui →
Maranui Cafe - a cafe in Lyall Bay (Wellington, NZ) was recently gutted by fire. Cafe L’affare, another cafe in Wellington, is donating all of their takings from this coming Sunday to the Maranui cafe and staff (half each). L’affare don’t usually open on Sunday’s. How cool is that? (that’s a trick question - it’s VERY cool).

I wonder if Joseph Ratzinger’s (aka Pope Benedict) broken right wrist might be divine retribution for a moment of weakness in the papal en suite.

I have a couple of issues with this ‘inspirational’ speech from Paul Hawken - he first loses me when he claims that “kindness to strangers” has religious roots (I would argue that the opposite would be more accurate). And then he really riles me with seemingly reverential references to Moses (the guy who, it is alleged, in the Book of Numbers ordered that all women and male...

Will all the ill-informed and illiterate ignorami who feel compelled to share their stupidity with the online world grow up to be the ill-informed and inarticulate ignorami who feel compelled to share their stupidity with talk-back radio listeners? And more importantly, did I just become one of them?

This demo — from Pattie Maes’ lab at MIT, spearheaded by Pranav Mistry — was the buzz of TED. It’s a wearable device with a projector that paves the way for profound interaction with our environment. Imagine “Minority Report” and then some.
